An NBA game consists of four 12 minute quarters and a 15 minute break at half time. At half time the teams exchange baskets/switch halves for the second half of the game.

A game is supposed to go for 63 minutes but as with a lot of other US Sports, timeouts, TV influence and other stoppages, the games usually lasts a lot longer…around the 2 hour mark.

Overtime in the NBA lasts for five minutes and is needed if each team has the same score at the end of the game.

An NBA game clock must be able to show tenths of a second when the quarter enters the final minute to help determine the exact amount of time there is left.
