First Time NBA Fantasy: Week 6 Studs/Duds & Happenings

Week 6 already, has the first month and a half flown by in the NBA. The bad part: There’s one less month of NBA for the season now. The good part: We’ve found out who’s really ready to step up, and who is really losing value in the fantasy game!

In this week’s article, we have your usual USSDU Beginner’s league happenings, accepted trades, proposals sent to me along with any add/drops from my ‘Everything NBA’ team. The standard studs and duds are included later in the piece which can help you search for potential trade targets and maybe who you should throw away. However this week we have a new section call ‘Pick Me Ups’, which are players who you should be picking up from your free agency area or waivers if they are available in your league.

My Add/Drops

No Add/Drops took place in my team this week. I made a bunch of moves over the past couple of weeks and therefore I wanted to really sit back and view my current player’s progression. I was looking at maybe dropping John Wall as he really doesn’t have a great timetable to return (however Christmas is really what he’s looking at), but I thought I’d sit on him seeing I drafted him so early (thinking that it would end up being a lost pick).

Accepted Trades

This week there was 1 accepted trade in the USSDU Beginner’s League.

O.J. Mayo

For

Danilo Gallinari & Steve Nash

The owner of Nash really wanted to dish him off in which we could have seen last week when it looked like he was offering him in any trade to anyone. He finally found an answer here in which he picked up a decreasing O.J. Mayo. Mayo has lost some owners during the past week and a half after having a solid start to the Mavs campaign this season.

Losing Gallinari also just showed that he was getting a little desperate to scrap Nash as he too has no real timetable for returning to action (Like John Wall).

Trades Proposed To Me

Just the one proposed trade this week and I’m sure you’ll quickly find the reason I declined.

Dwight Howard

For

Greivis Vasquez and Glen Davis

Well, I’m sure you’ve guessed it already after I’ve been hyping this man up for weeks, however if you’re still scratching your head, Greivis Vasquez is the reason I declined. My new found love for Vasquez this season means that I won’t be giving him away lightly in fantasy. Put it this way, if this trade had have been just Dwight Howard for Vasquez, I’d probably still decline.

Studs (Stats are Last 7 Days)

Carmelo Anthony: 28.3ppg, 7rpg, 48%FG

Patrick Patterson: 23ppg, 6rpg, 53%FG

Anderson Varejao: 18.5ppg, 18.8rpg, 63%FG

Stephen Curry: 20ppg, 10.5apg, 100%FT

Mike Conley: 4spg, 7.3apg, 17ppg

Josh Smith: 21ppg, 4bpg, 10.5rpg

Duds

Wayne Ellington: 19minutes per game (mpg), 3ppg, 21%FG

Gustavo Ayon: 13mpg, 4.7ppg, 4rpg

Isaiah Thomas: 12mpg, 8.7ppg, 1apg

Luis Scola: 24mpg, 10ppg, 38%FG

Harrison Barnes: 23mpg, 4ppg, 3.5rpg

Courtney Lee: 31mpg, 8ppg, 2apg

Paul George: 31mpg, 5.3ppg, 22%FG

Pick Me Up’s

Ricky Rubio: Can still be available in some leagues, if he is in yours, PICK HIM UP! Right now the Wolves are aiming at Dec 12 for the return, and once he’s back he will be an elite PG for any team. Last year he was averaging 8.2 assists with the team he had, with a couple of new additions, let’s see what he can do this year.

Chauncey Billups: With the surprise return last week, it took many fantasy owners by surprise, however many leagues haven’t seemed to jump on Mr Big’s bandwagon quite yet. While it may take Billups a little while to find some form, he will certainly be a useful utility once he gets going.

Antawn Jamison: With D’Antoni taking over in Laker land, Jamison has seen a sudden increase in minutes. This showed in his 30+ point, 10+ rebound game during the week. Another solid player to have hovering in your util/bench.

Larry Sanders: Sanders can be quite an inconsistent player, so pick your poison here. The one thing everyone knows: he can block some shots. A triple double this week (including 10 blocks) put him on the scene and hopefully this can be some sort of vision into the future. Knowing that, he also backed it up with 18 points and 16 boards.

Andray Blatche: With Brook Lopez set to miss another game or two; Blatche sees even more minutes than what he’s used to dominating in with the Brooklyn second unit. Averaging 17 points and 10 boards during the past week, he could be a solid fantasy pick up if he’s available in your league.

Robin Lopez: Another player with an increase in minutes due to injury (Anthony Davis in this case), Lopez has averaged 12.7ppg and 6.5rpg when Davis is out. With the center position very limited at times, Robin can be one that solidifies that position when your starting centre has the night off.

One more fantasy week down the drain, how’s your team doing so far? As always, any questions with your line-up or player profiles be sure to leave a comment in the box below.
