Aussies In The NBA Recap: 2012-13 Season Week 1
The first week of the new NBA season is in the books. Let’s take a look at how our Aussies players fared over the first 7 days.
Andrew Bogut
Andrew Bogut made his debut for the Golden State Warriors in their season opening win against Phoenix.
It was somewhat of a surprise to see him on the court, many thought he wouldn’t be back from his ankle injury until much later in the season.
He had a very encouraging comeback game, in 18 minutes he tallied 8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.
The Warriors have said they will be limiting his minutes for quite some time, just to ease him back into shape and put less stress on his body.
The Warriors home opener wasn’t a good one for the team and wasn’t much better for Bogut, logging 18 minutes but for only 4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.
He struggled against Memphis centre Marc Gasol, who scored 21 points for the night.
Golden State then travelled to Sacramento. Although they lost, Bogut had a very solid game.
In 19 minutes he registered 12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block. During the game Bogut fell to the ground awkwardly, the incident appeared to effect his ankle and cause quite a lot of pain.
Bogut didn’t play in the win against the L.A Clippers, which was decided prior to the Sacramento game. It seems Bogut won’t play in back to back games until at least December.
Patty Mills
Patty Mills has struggled to get minutes in the undefeated San Antonio team.
Being third in line at both the shooting guard and point guard positions has made it difficult for Mills to find any time on the court.
Mills managed his most minutes for the opening week in the tight tussle against New Orleans. In 6 minutes of game time he was able to get 1 point, 1 steal and bring down a rebound.
In the win against Oklahoma City, Mills played just over 2 minutes. He wasn’t able to find much court time because the game was so close all night and San Antonio opted to go with their stars towards the end of the game.
He had only one field goal attempt and missed it, he also had one turnover.
Patty wasn’t able to get any game time in the win against Utah.
In the Spurs win over the Pacers, he played almost 4 minutes. His only stat for the match was one steal. The main positive for him in the match was that he did play some very tight defence in the time he was on the court.
Although Mills has had a slow start to the season, I am expecting him to get more minutes as the season progresses and they start to face the easier teams.
