NBA TV To Celebrate The 20th Anniversary of the Dream Team

NBA TV will celebrate the 20th anniversary of USA Basketball’s iconic team, The Dream Team, by premiering a documentary with the same on the 14th of June at 11am EST.
NBA.com revealed the news in a press release , calling the Ed Burns directed and written film the “definitive documentary of the historic 1992 USA Basketball team.”
It will feature recent interviews with all 12 members — including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and the always outspoken TNT Analyst Charles Barkley.
The 90-minute documentary will reveal footage from the archives of USA Basketball and untold stories of how the most legendary basketball team assembled, took the world by storm and changed the game forever.
A team comprised almost totally of Hall Of Famers both on the court and on the bench, this team dominated it’s competition and paved the way for the professional game you see today. It showed the worlds greatest stage, the Barcelona Olympics, that this was Team USA and they were going to beat you and beat you badly.
“The Dream Team” documentary includes a behind-the-scenes journey into the selection of the team, the personalities, the legendary team-building experiences in training camp and exhibitions, and ultimately its Beatlesesque welcoming in Spain.
Additionally, it will talk about their only loss, documented through rare footage from USA Basketball’s film library; the story of the greatest game never seen, featuring exclusive footage from 20 years ago in Monte Carlo when Magic and Jordan went head-to-head in practice. This has been spoken of in interviews, in books and on telecasts but never been released.
The mens Olympic team of 1992, aptly nicknamed the “Dream Team” defeated their opponents by an average of almost 44 points en route to the gold medal against Croatia at the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona.
The team included: Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Christian Laettner, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, and John Stockton, as well as assistant coaches Lenny Wilkens, Mike Krzyzewski, and P.J. Carlesimo.
If you are anything like me and fell in love with game in the 80′s and 90′s this is a must see event. There will be short shorts, highlights galore and I’m sure some of those amazing quotes from Charles Barkley.
