Week 6 was once again a week where Damian Lillard dominated the competition for the Rookie of the Year award.

We have to wonder, with Anthony Davis on the shelf again with another injury, can any other rookie step up and challenge Lillard for the title of best rookie?

Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers

As I’ve said before, Damian Lillard is a great talent who landed in a perfect situation in Portland. Not only does he have the skills to succeed but he also has a team that needs him to put up numbers to compete with the upper echelon of the Western Conference.

Portland had a rough week 6 but Lillard continued his stellar play.

In a 118 – 112 win in Charlotte Lillard put up 24 points, 9 assists and 3 rebounds. He struggled a bit from the field hitting 6 of 16 shots from the field including a paltry 1 of 8 from three. The charity stripe was his friend in the contest as he hit 11 of 14 free throws.

Next up for the Blazers was a  trip to Indiana where they dropped a 99 – 92 decision to the Pacers.

Lillard again scored 20+, finishing with 23 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds in the loss.

He improved his shooting, hitting 9 of 15 attempts, but only 1 of 5 from beyond the arc.

The final Blazers game of week 6 was a 99 – 80 loss at home to the Sacramento Kings.

Lillard was solid in the loss going for 12 points, 9 assists and 1 rebound.

If Lillard can continue to put up double digit points and near double digit assists, the Rookie of the Year award is his. As it stands, he is far and away the favorite for the award.

Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards

Bradley Beal makes his debut in the Rookie Report after putting together an impressive week 6.

In the upset of the 2012-13 season, a 105 – 101 Wizards win over the defending NBA champion Miami Heat, Beal posted 10 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists.

Beal followed up with an 18 point, 3 rebound and 3 assist stat line in a 104 – 95 loss in Atlanta.

For the game, Beal shot 5 of 12 from the field, hitting 2 of his 4 attempts from three.

The Wizards finished off the week with a tough 101 – 97 loss at home to the Golden State Warriors.

Beal increased his output versus the Warriors totaling 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Wizards and Beal struggled out of the gate this season, but both seem to coming around.

If the Wizards can start winning consistently, and Beal continues to perform as he did in week 6, we may find Beal as a regular in the Rookie Report.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Charlotte Bobcats

The Bobcats have lost some of their early season shine but Michael Kidd-Gilchrist continues to impress in his rookie campaign.

MKG’s numbers don’t stand out from the 118 – 112 loss to the Blazers, but he sure did stuff the stat sheet.

Kidd-Gilchrist finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

MKG was solid in the Bobcats 100 – 98 loss to the New York Knicks. He put up 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists but also had 4 turnovers.

Next up for Charlotte was a 108 – 93 loss in Milwaukee to the Bucks.

MKG posted a double-double in the defeat going for 11 points and 11 rebounds with 2 assists.

The Bobcats finished off the week with a 132 – 102 loss to the Spurs. And once again MKG filled his box score.

Kidd-Gilchrist has 8 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks in the loss.

A lot of people thought Charlotte missed the boat when they chose Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with the second pick in the NBA Draft, but MKG is proving his doubters wrong.

He may not be excellent at any one thing, but he does a lot of things well. And he always goes all out, something that will never appear in his overstuffed stat sheet.

Other rookies making positive contributions to their teams include Kyle Singler (Detroit Pistons), Alexey Shved (Minnesota Timberwolves), Harrison Barnes (Golden State Warriors), Jonas Valanciunas (Toronto Raptors) and Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons).

Who was your top rookie of week 6 in the NBA?
