NBA Storylines to Watch – Week 1
With the first week of NBA games done and dusted, we take a look at the major storylines to come out this week.
James Harden and the Rockets
In what was a shock move just a few days out from the season, the Thunder traded James Harden after they couldn’t work out a deal around a new contract.
The bearded one arrived in Houston and promptly put up some ridiculous numbers (35.3ppg, 6.3rpg & 6.3apg) proving that his place on not on anyones bench.
With such a young and exciting core including Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, Chandler Parsons and Patrick Patterson there is plenty of interest in this team to see if they can keep their run going.
New York are 3-0!!
For the first time since the 99 season the New York Knickerbockers are 3-0 to start the season.
After letting Jeremy Lin walk off to Houston and making some questionable signings this team is really proving the doubters wrong.
Even without Amare Stoudemire this team is lighting it up with a dominating win against Miami and two easy wins over the hapless 76ers.
Will they be able to keep it going into April or will the geriatrics be nursing some injuries to their old bodies?
Miami – 7 Seconds or Less
With Ray Allen now calling South Beach home this team is developing a love of the quick paced game.
Last season they were already a fast paced team but with so many shooters on this team they have amazingly upped the pace even more.
In a scary stat they have 5 players shooting 50% or over from beyond the arc (Cole, James, Allen, Lewis and Wade).
If they can continue with this game plan will anyone be able to stop them?
Can the Lakers Turn It Around?
Not everyone is happy in Lakerland and the big question remains, can they turn their poor start around?
I know it’s only the first week but things looked bleak after a 0-3 start.
It’s all well and good saying that the team needs to get used to each other but the offensive sets looked awkward and the bench looked like a bunch of Rec Centre hacks.
Now with Nash out and Kobe basically playing on one foot they need their bench more than ever.
I’m not willing to write them off just yet but they need to show a marked improvement if they are going to contend in the West.
