Lakers Looking to Trade Pau?

Seriously? How many times can a team find a new way to be in the headlines in the first month and a bit of the season?

Howard/Nash signings, pre-season struggles, regular season troubles, fire coach, hire new coach, more regular season struggles, trade rumours.

That pretty much sums up the Lakers saga so far in the 2012/13 season and the latest round of talk revolves around trade rumours and Pau Gasol.

Pau has looked lost in whatever offense he has been apart of that isn’t the triangle and now has admitted he has broken knees.

The Lakers desperately need some floor spacers and Pau’s name has been floated around to other teams including the Hawks (Josh Smith/Kyle Korver) and the Hornets/Pelicans (Ryan Anderson).

Will the Lakers ignore Kobe’s talk that Pau isn’t going anywhere or will they make the call and ship him off to another franchise?

Melo for MVP?

With the New York Knickerbockers starting the season in tremendous fashion the argument has been made for Melo to be in the running for some MVP action.

A move to the PF position certainly agrees with the New York superstar and his numbers have been up from a dismal 2011/12 season.

It may be very early to make MVP calls but he is certainly playing on a level that we haven’t seen since his Denver days.

Will he continue on his winning ways or will he start going on 7-24, 8-25 etc efforts while trying to shoot his team back into the game?

Big Games Coming Up

There are a couple games coming up that will spark some water cooler talk amongst NBA fans with some blockbuster match ups.

First up is New York @ Miami on Friday (Aus time). This is appealing on so many levels but the main reason is to see if New York are legit threats to Miami for the Eastern Conference title.

They may have the same record as Miami (12-4) but the only way to find out who is the better team is to play each other.

Trying to forget about a 4-0 wipe out in the 1st round of the playoffs last season the Knicks face a Miami side that just lost to the worst team in the NBA (Washington) and has been far from excellent.

Wade has lost a step, the defense is a giant mess (they let the worst offensive team score 100+) and they have let lesser teams get the advantage early in games.

The second big game is the Lakers @ Thunder on Saturday (Aus time).

The Lakers for reasons stated above are an interesting team and a big game might be the thing to kick start their season (again).

Dwight has gone back to cartoon mode and Kobe has gone into “I’m shooting everyone” mode so it could either be a close game or a massive implosion and 40 point blow out.

The Thunder are playing well despite still adjusting to playing with Kevin Martin instead of James Harden and welcoming Eric Maynor back into the rotation.

If the Lakers come at them hard I’m not sure how they will react but if they take the initiative then it could be another embarrassing loss for the purple and gold.

Should the Lakers trade Gasol and if so, for who? What game are you looking forward to this coming week?

  1. Gasol will get traded. He doesn’t fit into D’Antoni’s system at all and his shooting percentage is way low. He wants to post up more to score and because Dwight is there, it difficult for him! But the Lakers don’t really need a player better then Pau, they need someone who fits better in the system and will help the team win games.
