2013 NBA All Star Weekend Previews: The Shooting Stars
The first cab off the rank for the the All Star Saturday Night (or Sunday afternoon our time) is the Shooting Stars.
It’s a nice way to combine the present stars with the former greats and the WNBA.
Like always there will be 4 teams. This year they’re representing Houston, Oklahoma City, Miami and New York. They will also all have a current NBA player as a team captain.
CONTESTANTS
Team Houston:
Captain: James Harden, Sam Cassell (Former Rocket), Tina Thompson (Houston Comets)
Team Oklahoma City:
Captain: Russell Westbrook, Robert Horry (7 Time NBA Champ), Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx)
Team Miami:
Captain: Chris Bosh, Dominique Wilkins (Former Atlanta Hawk), Swin Cash (Chicago Sky)
Team New York:
Captain: Brook Lopez, Muggsy Bogues (5 foot 3 Legend), Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever)
WHERE TO WATCH
You can get the event Live on ESPN Australia via Foxtel along with the rest of the All Star festivities.
The event will start at 12:30 pm AEDT (See TV Guide for other events and times) as the opener to a big day of games.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
People having a good time.
Generally this event is a rather laid back and relaxing way to kick off the evening, but it will get competitive near the end when the juices start flowing and the former greats feel the vibe of NBA basketball once more.
When going through the various shooting stages it really does come down to luck at the end when trying to make the final half court bomb.
They still have a high success rate on it as we’ve all seen our friends fail much worse from half court.
If the the Shooting Stars component of the All Star Weekend isn’t as good as they thought it would be this year it would be great if they brought back the H.O.R.S.E competition.
Although this time mix an NBA legend in there like Michael Jordan, that would be one way to tell if he could indeed still compete at 50 years of age.
FINAL WORD
To pick a winner I’ve gone with team Oklahoma City. Westbrook will have no problems from half court and Robert Horry will fit right in with his clutch jump shots.
The odds are certainly in their favour.
Would a move back to the H.O.R.S.E competition work or will the Shooting Stars provide plenty of entertainment as it is?
