Free Agency Update Part 2: Jet Flies, Nash Burns Suns, DWill Stays Put

Free Agency is really ramping up with a blockbuster deal sending Nash to a title contender and Deron Williams becoming the face of the recently relocated Brooklyn Nets.

It’s been a busy few days so let’s take a look at some of the changes we can look forward to seeing in the upcoming season.

Spencer Hawes Resigns With 76ers

Often injured big man Spencer Hawes has been reported to have resigned with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two year deal.

Looking to build some momentum after the most promising season Philly has had since Iverson left, Spencer Hawes brings back his scoring touch and solid rebounding to an up and coming team.

Gerald Wallace Resigns With Brooklyn Nets

After opting out of his contract, Nets forward Gerald Wallace has agreed to join the team in Brooklyn, joining Deron Williams and Joe Johnson to form a potent back court.

Wallace has come back with a 4 year 40 million dollar deal which is definitely fair for this established do-it-all player.

Steve Nash Traded To Los Angeles Lakers

The former MVP has left the Suns and joined the Lakers!

In what can only be described as a steal (remember the Pau Gasol trade?) the Lakers have done it again.

Signing Nash for 3 years and 25 million while only giving up two future first round picks (likely to be down the bottom end) and two future second round picks.

Nash instantly makes the Lakers title candidates, especially seeing how they didn’t have to give up any talent in the process.

Deron Williams Resigns With Brooklyn Nets

Williams has thankfully stopped all the hype by committing himself to the Brooklyn Nets. Williams has signed a max contract and will become the face of the franchise alongside side former all star Joe Johnson.

It was widely expected Williams would be headed to his hometown Dallas Mavericks but the lure of the extra year on the contract as well as being “The Man” was too much.

Jason Terry Signs With Boston Celtics

Former Maverick Jason “Jet” Terry has agreed to join the enemy and is moving across country to the Boston Celtics, verbally committing to the team yesterday.

While it is expected Ray Allen will leave the franchise, Jet may have a decent opportunity to play as Avery Bradley recovers from shoulder surgery over the off season.

Terry is a multiple Sixth Man of the Year winner and won the title last year with Dallas. He brings to the Celtics and offensive punch sorely missing from the bench which is where I see him having the greatest impact.

Andre Miller Resigns With Denver Nuggets

While this is a very quiet move and got little publicity this is a great move for a young Denver team.

Miller is a solid pg who is the leader of this team and looks to guide them further into the playoffs this upcoming season.

George Hill Resigns With Indiana Pacers

Another unsuspecting move, Indiana quickly shored up it’s roster by resigning guard George Hill.

Hill moved to the Pacers from the Spurs last season and was one of the key drivers of their growth this season.

Playing both guard positions, Hill made an impact on both the offensive and defensive end, leading this young team to the playoffs and ultimately falling to eventual champs the Miami Heat.

Mike Beasley Signs With Phoenix Suns

Former number two pick Michael Beasley has agreed to terms with the Phoenix Suns.

Alongside new recruit Goran Dragic, Beasley looks to redeem his career once again by again moving franchises after originally being dropped from Miami to Minnesota.

Beasley will bring offense to the Suns, reeling from the loss of former MVP Steve Nash.

Along with Dragic, Beasley will lead the new direction of the franchise and should thrive in this uptempo and loose environment.

Goran Dragic Signs With Phoenix Suns

Houston have lost point guard Goran Dragic after he has agreed to terms with the Phoenix suns.

With Nash moving to LA, Dragic will be given the reins to one of the most free flowing offenses in the league and should thrive with a mobile and energetic roster.

In getting Dragic the Suns can stick to their game plan and don’t need to change the style of play they clearly love to play.

With former Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley joining him, these two will hope to provide the one – two punch missing since Amare and Joe Johnson left town all those years ago.

Hasheem Thabeet Signs With Oklahoma City Thunder

Thabeet has signed on to join the Thunder in what could make one of those more imposing front lines in the NBA.

After being signed as the #2 pick in the 2009 draft, Thabeet has bounced around a few teams and now finds himself in the perfect position to excel.

With front court talent such as Kendrick Perkins, Serge Ibaka and Nick Collison, Thabeet will have the ability to play off the bench and try and provide in limited minutes.

I believe the Thunder may part ways with Perkins, giving Thabeet more responsibility and minutes on this fantastic roster.

He can run the floor and block shots which is all OKC will expect of him. Anything on offense would be a bonus.
