NBA Storylines to Watch – Week 13
The NBA heads into an exciting week with All Star announcements, trades and big games on.
USSDU has a look at what stories look interesting in the coming week.
Kings to Seattle or Are They?
The twitterverse exploded on Monday when news came through that Chris Hansen and his investor group had purchased 65% of the Sacramento Kings for $341mil (65% of the $525mil valuation).
This is the same group that has announced plans for a brand new arena in Seattle and would be moving any team there if they could somehow purchase one.
While the deal looks pretty much done (it only needs ratifying by the NBA Owners) there has been some rumblings that the City of Sacramento is putting together a bid to keep the team in Sacramento.
Details of the deal are very sketchy but Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson is confident he can find enough local investors to complete the arena plan they put to the Maloofs last year and make a bid for the team.
Will the NBA return to Seattle or will the Kings stay in Sacramento?
What to Do With Dwight Howard?
The Lakers are in all sorts of trouble right now and some of the blame has to be on Dwight Howard.
He has shown in Orlando that he can be a 25pt/15rb guy but right now he looks more Clark Kent than Superman.
Taking single digit shot attempts, getting ejected from two games (he only has 1 other ejection in his entire career) and looking lost on defense is not what the Lakers need from him in order to win.
It’s hard to tell whether his back is still troubling him or whether it’s just his bad attitude but something needs to change.
One thing that might do it is a trade. The Lakers are facing the real possibility that he ditches them over the summer when he becomes a free agent for Atlanta or Brooklyn so why take the risk?
A straight swap of Brook Lopez for Dwight Howard makes sense for the Lakers and Nets GM Billy King has always wanted Dwight in Brookyln (same goes for Deron Williams).
Will Dwight pick up his game or will the Lakers look to ship him off elsewhere?
All Star Reserves Announced This Week
Finishing the All Star game roster I think is more important than selecting the starters because it all comes down to who is playing well, not how popular they are.
In both the East and West there are so many players that deserve a spot on the team but will miss out.
Who do you leave out? Brook Lopez, Josh Smith or Tyson Chandler? Russell Westbrook, Tony Parker or Steph Curry?
The coaches will have some tough decisions to make but one thing can be certain, it will be a high scoring and entertaining game.
Who do you want to see in the All Star Game?
