Aussies In The NFL: Aussie Brad Wing To Declare
Aussie LSU punter Brad Wing will reportedly declare for the 2013 NFL Draft instead of finishing his college career.
The news comes after Wing was suspended from LSU’s Bowl Game, the Chick-fil-A Bowl for violating team rules. LSU has not explained the specifics of the suspension, although there have been reports of a failed drug test.
Wing had consistently turned heads during his time at LSU with his accurate, booming punts and was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy award, given to the nation’s best college punter.
There will be two Australians featuring in the 2013 NFL Draft, Wing will hopefully be drafted along with Alabama’s DL Jesse Williams.
In 2012 two punters were drafted, Jacksonville’s Bryan Anger in the 3rd and Carolina’s Brad Nortman in the 6th. While Williams has be predicted to go anywhere within the first three rounds it is likely that Wing would be selected in the final three rounds.
This news also came after Jesse Williams was invited to the Senior Bowl. He is yet to accept the invite but he could surely boost his chances of being drafted high should he perform well.
It would be amazing if not one but two Australians were drafted into the NFL in the same year. We’ll be sure to keep you informed throughout the offseason leading up to the Draft in April, including when Wing’s status is made official and the full nature of his LSU suspension.
